Cos'è MTM
Manifatture Teatrali Milanesi è il teatro di Milano che vive in tre sale e due scuole: un luogo dove si vedono gli spettacoli e si impara a farli.MTM è un progetto di Fondazione Palazzo Litta per le Arti ETS, riconosciuto dal Ministero della Cultura come Centro di Produzione teatrale e sostenuto da Regione Lombardia e Comune di Milano. Con il Teatro Litta, La Cavallerizza e il Teatro Leonardo, MTM è — insieme al Piccolo Teatro — l'unica realtà multisala della città distribuita in distretti urbani diversi: tre palcoscenici, due quartieri, un solo progetto artistico.

Tre sale, due quartieri
Il Teatro Litta, in corso Magenta 24, è la sede storica: il palcoscenico dove convivono i grandi autori e la ricerca contemporanea. Accanto, nello stesso palazzo, La Cavallerizza è lo spazio della prossimità e dei linguaggi nuovi, la sala dove il teatro si fa più vicino. Il Teatro Leonardo, in via Ampère 1, in Città Studi, è la casa della commedia e delle grandi produzioni. Tre sale che parlano a pubblici diversi e si tengono insieme in un’unica visione.
Due scuole
La formazione non è un’appendice di MTM: ne è una radice. L’Accademia Litta e la Grock Scuola di teatro accompagnano chi vuole fare del teatro un mestiere e chi vuole semplicemente attraversarlo — bambini, ragazzi e adulti — tra recitazione, danza, canto e musical. Da qui passano molti degli artisti che poi tornano sui nostri palcoscenici.
Chi guida MTM
La direzione artistica di MTM è affidata a Gaetano Callegaro, Valeria Cavalli e Antonio Syxty, affiancati da Filippo Renda come direttore artistico junior. A loro si lega HORS – House of the Rising Sun, il festival del teatro indipendente under 35 diretto da Stefano Cordella e Filippo Renda. L’attività della Fondazione è coordinata e rappresentata dalla Presidente Gaia Calimani.
Da dove veniamo
La nostra storia comincia nel 1984, quando la Cooperativa Teatro Litta – Teatro degli Eguali prende in mano l’attività del Teatro Litta. Nel 2009 alcuni di quei soci danno vita alla Fondazione Palazzo Litta per le Arti. Nel 2015 la Fondazione rileva l’attività di spettacolo e di formazione della Cooperativa Quelli di Grock: due poli produttivi del teatro milanese, attivi da quasi mezzo secolo, confluiscono in un solo progetto. Nasce così MTM — un modello che mette in comune saperi, poetiche ed economie, lasciando a ciascuno la propria identità.

Three venues, two neighbourhoods
Teatro Litta, on Corso Magenta 24, is the historic home: the stage where great playwrights and contemporary research meet. Next door, in the same building, La Cavallerizza is the space of closeness and new languages, the room where theatre comes nearer. Teatro Leonardo, on Via Ampère 1, in the Città Studi district, is the home of comedy and large-scale productions. Three venues that speak to different audiences and hold together in a single vision.
Two schools
Training is not an appendage to MTM: it is one of its roots. Accademia Litta and Grock Scuola di teatro guide those who want to make theatre their profession and those who simply want to pass through it — children, teenagers and adults — across acting, dance, singing and musical theatre. Many of the artists who later return to our stages started here.
Who leads MTM
MTM’s artistic direction is led by Gaetano Callegaro, Valeria Cavalli and Antonio Syxty, joined by Filippo Renda as junior artistic director. Linked to them is HORS – House of the Rising Sun, the festival of independent theatre for artists under 35, directed by Stefano Cordella and Filippo Renda. The Foundation’s activity is coordinated and represented by its President, Gaia Calimani.
Where we come from
Our story begins in 1984, when the Cooperativa Teatro Litta – Teatro degli Eguali took over the running of Teatro Litta. In 2009 some of its members founded Fondazione Palazzo Litta per le Arti. In 2015 the Foundation acquired the performance and training activities of the Cooperativa Quelli di Grock: two production hubs of Milanese theatre, active for nearly half a century, came together in a single project. This is how MTM was born — a model that pools knowledge, artistic visions and resources while letting each part keep its own identity.
